Our Team
James Phillips (current student)
James is a doctoral student and graduate teaching fellow at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. His research focuses on the strategic practices of aerospace communication and engagement (otherwise known as SPACE), primarily observing how space agencies communicate science with the public and how members of the public in turn understand and engage with space science.
Michelle Ardent (current student)
Michelle is pursuing my doctorate in communication and media studies at the University of Oregon. Michelle’s academic interests thematically align around recontextualization, literacy, and the affordances of web 2.0 practices and other alternative modalities/strategies for informal learning, science comm, and pedagogy overall. Other focuses include rhetorical dexterity, register and genre knowledge and semiotic play.
Tilly (daily helper)
Tilly is a frequent helper at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. This furry, friendly dog likes student visits at office hours, chasing campus squirrels, and the occasional cheese stick.
Our Collaborators
I often work with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as communication and environmental specialists. If you are interested in collaborating about all things science and risk communication, contact me here.
